T.S.JAGUAR HIGH WYCOMBE SEA CADETS
We are closely connected to T.S. Jaguar High Wycombe Sea Cadets and raise money with our Maggot Racing Event which we organise and perform at various venues both locally and nationwide.
Statement from T.S. Jaguar High Wycombe Sea Cadets
There has been a Sea Cadet Unit in High Wycombe since 1938, moving to its current premises in 1964. Many young people are keen to wear the uniform of the Royal Navy and the Royal Marines, but we must not overlook the value in belonging to a Unit, which is like an extended family.
A family in which they can interact, play sport, learn new skills, discipline, especially self-motivation, and confidence in their ability to work either on their own initiative or as a member of a team, whichever the situation demands.
To achieve any of these skills they need a building where they can come together – along with adult volunteers – to learn in a safe and welcoming environment.
We are fortunate in that we own our building, and the ground it sits on, but as you can appreciate this entails a sizeable sum of money to maintain and ‘keep afloat’, even more so in the current economic climate. Contrary to popular belief we receive no funding from our Headquarters, each Unit is a registered charity in its own right – our Charity No. is 300279.
We must purchase all our own equipment, boats etc., indeed everything to ensure our young people have the best possible cadet experience. We are also lucky enough to own our own mini-bus, which can also be a drain on our resources, but is does enable us to transport our cadets and equipment to various Courses they may wish to attend, or District competitions, eg swimming, five-a-side football etc.
To progress in our aims and objectives, we need to raise much-needed funds, which as you can appreciate is often a massive undertaking and therefore quite daunting. We have been most fortunate in the valuable help and assistance we have received from Barrie and June over the years. Their imaginative and creative ideas have certainly helped us to raise these funds, and we cannot thank them enough for their continued support.
During the many years we have been with T.S. Jaguar, we have seen a lot young people come into Sea Cadets, quite often shy and reserved, but when they leave they have the skills to become good and honest citizens. I am pleased to say that some of our current cadets are their sons and daughters!!
